Redemption Films, in association with Kino Lorber, releases
Virgin Witch (1972) and Killer's Moon (1978)
on Blu-ray and DVD
New York, NY - March 12, 2012 - Continuing its mission to craft deluxe editions of neglected horror/fantasy films, Redemption Films presents Blu-ray and DVD releases of two oft-neglected British horror titles: Virgin Witch (1972) and Killer's Moon (1978).
In bold departures from the gothic conventions of the Hammer Studios, these films borrowed elements from softcore adult cinema and the ultra-violence of Stanley Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange--ushering in a new era of the British horror cinema that would give rise to the so-called "video nasties" of the 1980s and a stricter form of censorship targeting home video releases (the Video Recordings Act of 1984).
Killer's Moon and Virgin Witch are presented here complete and uncut, mastered in HD from the original 35mm negatives.
Virgin Witch includes the original theatrical trailer and a stills gallery. Killer's
Moon features an interview with actress Joanne Good, an interview with director Alan Birkinshaw, audio commentary by Alan Birkinshaw and Joanne Good, as well as the original theatrical trailer and stills gallery.
Both Virgin Witch and Killer's Moon street on Blu-ray and DVD on March
13th. Each is priced at $19.95 for the Blu-ray edition, and $14.95 for the DVD.
Virgin Witch (1972)
Directed by Ray Austin
Capitalizing on the pop cultural fascination with the occult, while taking advantage of the era's relaxed censorship, Virgin Witch was one of the more notorious British horror films of the early seventies. Ann Michelle (House of Whipcord) and Vicki Michelle (BBC's 'Allo 'Allo!) star as a pair of miniskirted birds who travel to a remote castle in order to land a contract in the modeling agency of the mysterious lesbian Sybil Waite (Patricia Haines). Only then do they realize that the agency is a means of procuring fresh victims for a witch's coven. Sybil's plan goes awry when she discovers that one of the virginal sisters is hardly an innocent victim--but is gifted with deadly supernatural powers.

Killer's Moon (1978)
A film by Alan Birkinshaw
An important film in the evolution of "video nasties" (especially violent films that brought about stricter censorship in the UK in the early 1980s), Killer's Moon sets a quartet of drug-addled psychopaths against a group of vacationing schoolgirls.
Four mental patients undergo an experimental drug therapy, and then escape into the countryside. Believing they are inside a dream, they lose any remaining shreds of morality. Roaming the woods, they stumble upon a manor of schoolgirls and wreak unholy havoc.
Dressed all in white, like the droogs of A Clockwork Orange, these terrifying sleepwalkers unleash their violent ids with insane abandon. When two nearby campers attempt to stop the slaughter, the killers begin to awake from their slumber -- and to their deeds.
